Kundalini Yoga and Meditation is an ancient yoga practice descending from the lineage of Raj yoga. It has been practiced in India since 500BC, and was introduced to the West in the 1960s.

What to expect from a Kundalini Yoga class?

Kundalini yoga uses ‘Kriyas’ (specially formulated sets of sequenced postures, breathing techniques and mantras) to strengthen mind, body and spirit. There are thousands of Kriyas in Kundalini Yoga, each one tailored to achieved a specific outcome. Kundalini Yoga also uses many meditation techniques that can bring clarity, peace of mind and increased happiness to the practitioner.

Kundalini Meditation

A Kundalini Yoga set will always include meditation. The reason is simple: the purpose of yoga is to get you ready to be still to meditate. We work through the different yoga positions in a set (called asanas) to reach the point where we can separate from our minds and meditate. Meditation can include breathwork (pranayama), mantras and mudras ( hand postures) or combine all three them.

What are the benefits of Kundalini Yoga?

Practicing Kundalini Yoga keeps the body in shape and trains the mind to be strong and flexible in the face of daily stresses and challenges. It increases oxygen levels, boosts blood flow, balances the glandular system, strengthens the nervous system, and reduces stress-induced hormones such as adrenaline and cortisol.

Kundalini yoga will enhance your peace of mind, concentration and give you a sense of deep inner calm and self-confidence. No matter your age or physical capacity, you can practice Kundalini Yoga and meditation and witness immediate benefits.

What about Kundalini Energy, what is it?

Kundalini is a Sanskrit term that literally means “coiled one.” The term represents the primal energy resting at the base of one’s spine, coiled on itself like a snake.

Through the practice of Kundalini yoga you will gently shake that energy from its dormant state to its active state. This unrolling of the Kundalini is what allows energy to flow upward toward the brain helping us to reach higher states of consciousness and live our life to its fullest potential.

Think how often your subconscious mind takes over in your daily life, when unleashed (which is often) it drives all our decisions without us even realising. Through the practice of Kundalini Yoga and meditation we shift the power from the unconscious mind to the conscious mind and we finally become the actor of our own life. Think of it as awakening your inner superhero.
